Foreigners may marry each other in Japan, under Japanese law, with certain conditions. However, in the future this marriage may or may not be recognized in your home country. Please follow the required formalities at your home country's Japanese embassy or consulate, as well as at the City Office.
If you need to submit a birth certificate, death certificate, or other certificate to prove certain conditions that is written in a foreign language, also include documents translating these into Japanese.
When a baby is born in Japan, if either of the parents is Japanese, the baby can obtain Japanese nationality. In all other cases, the nationality of a child depends upon the regulations of parents' home country.
If you need to submit a death certificate to the City Office during a holiday or outside of working hours, bring to the night watchman's room at the City Office.
